ChewingRice

ChewingRice is a B2B agency focused on ethical transformation and change management, highlighting sustainable and diverse practices.

As Content Writer and Manager, I re-launched ChewingRice’s social channels to an audience increase of 200% and worked on short and long-form written content to raise brand awareness. I also worked on localised content for companies in Sweden, Kenya, and Nepal.

Tone of Voice Guidelines [Excerpt]

ChewingRice is exists to see problems differently, so we can guide organisations through challenging transformations in a way that is modern, relevant, meaningful, and fit for the future. We are clever, future-facing industry leaders, but we need to be approachable enough for the average client, who may not be there yet.

The CR Tone of Voice should:

  • Use primarily first-person plural, both in reference to ChewingRice and society as a whole. We are a part of society, rather than outside of or facing it, and this allows clients to feel included in this wider transformation as well.

  • Use gentler, less exclusionary terms, in order to establish CR as an approachable leader. For example, instead of agency, use collective. Instead of partnership, use collaboration. These terms are less intimidating for clients who may be hesitant to initiate changes, and allow them to ask questions.

  • Remain future-facing. Replace could and would with will — for example: "Implementing a flexible working structure will allow parents to reduce childcare costs, and allow them peace of mind that will lead to more productivity."

Blog [Excerpt]: DEI Trends

Between September 2019 and September 2020, job postings for DEl positions on Indeed rose by 56.3%. On Linkedin between 2019 and 2022, chief DEl positions nearly tripled. Companies were making historic decisions and moves to meet the contemporary moment and connect with consumers - but did it last? In the last year or so, DEl roles have diminished at a faster pace than non-DEl roles, beginning in 2021 and continuing to accelerate during layoffs in 2022 - particularly in tech industries, according to a Revelio Labs study.

Over 300 DEl professionals left companies that have experienced layoffs, in some cases amounting to the exodus of entire diversity teams. But we know that companies with DEl teams tend to have higher employee satisfaction and a better productivity rate, so why is it no longer a priority?

Out of the Top 50 Fortune 500 CEOs, 37 are white men. Eventually, we want to get to a point where the number of diverse CEOs, both by gender and race, is no longer so greatly disproportionate. But in the meantime, a less diverse higher-level management team cannot be closed off to DEl practice. (…)

A guide to talking about menopause in the workplace

Did you know that menopausal women are the fastest-growing demographic in the workforce? According to a study in the UK, almost 8 out of 10 menopausal people are working. In the same study, the majority of women reported that they were “unwilling to disclose menopause-related health problems to line managers, most of whom were men or younger than them”. It’s more important than ever to provide a safe and secure space for women to discuss menopause at work.

Menopause symptoms can make working very challenging, especially because many women find it difficult to discuss at work. This guide is designed to help you navigate the topic.

Educate yourself

If you’re approaching menopause, it can help to know what to expect. Most women experience menopause between the ages of 45 and 55, but it impacts anyone who experiences menstruation. It’s a natural course of biological aging and can happen naturally with time or through health-related treatments and surgeries. Symptoms of menopause can have a big impact on one’s daily life and are different for

everyone. Normally, menopause begins with a perimenopause period, which is when you begin to experience the symptoms of menopause before ending your period. Though this period can be difficult to adjust to, it allows you to make necessary changes and adjustments to your family and work life before symptoms become more severe or noticeable.

Web Copy (About Us)

ChewingRice is a diverse collective of observers, innovators, and creatives, and we have seen that opportunities for change can come from anywhere, anyone, at any time. We work with industry specialists and new thinkers, who leapfrog conventional ideas to carve their paths. Times are changing, and with a flexible work structure and a four-day workweek, we are pushing against outdated ideas that productivity must be aligned with an industrialised clock-in/clock-out framework. The result of this structure speaks for itself, and the ChewingRice team works in a space that is both productive and comfortable, allowing room to build passion and drive us to deliver the best work for our clients.

This relinquishing of formal structures allows us to hire based on someone’s capabilities and perspectives, not their location. Nairobi, London, Barcelona; it doesn’t matter. Everyone has something to bring to the table, and by flattening hierarchical systems, we are working to establish it as a norm for the next generation.

Feel like you’d fit in? Check out our open opportunities.
